The union of the supreme male and female energies—Purusha and Prakriti, represented as Ardhanarishwara, is the pinnacle of perfection, an idealized vision of the very essence at the core of the cosmos. This bronze statue of Ardhanarishwara is crafted in the traditional iconography of the Chola period, with Lord Shiva depicted on the right. His leg is poised yet firm, adorned with a bell, and he wears a tiger hide dhoti, waist belt, and Yajnopavita. On the left, Goddess Parvati, his Vamangi (residing on the left, signifying the wife), is shown in an accentuated Tribhanga posture, her body supple yet graceful.
